SHIFT CONTROLLER

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To ensure optimum shift-based utilisation of plant, raw materials, and people, to produce quality products at a minimum cost which meets customer and business requirements and complies with legislation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
OPTIMISE PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE & PROCESSES
- Interpret and implement weekly production plan per a shift per a line.
- Monitor production processes to optimise efficiency, quality and reduce waste.
- Monitor trends and initiate corrective action.
- Support the team to improve process quality and productivity.
- Co-ordinate scheduled maintenance to ensure optimal machine availability
- Ensure raw materials and finished goods are available for production
PERFORMANCE ADMINISTRATION
- Ensure application of administration systems and procedures.
- Administer conditions of employment for team members.
- Ensure shift documentation such as production sheets, works orders, quality check sheets, cleaning check sheets, stock management process are completed on shift.
MAINTAIN SAFE, HEALTHY & RISK-FREE WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Comply with safety, food safety, health and environmental legislation and procedures.
- Training and compliance of safe work procedures.
MANUFACTURING PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES IN OWN AREA
- Lead production activities in accordance with the work practice framework.
- Lead the application of teamwork practices for a team.
- Seek opportunities for improvement and execute.
LEAD THE APPLICATION OF PROBLEM-SOLVING PROCESS IN OWN AREA
- Lead the application of problem-solving techniques to resolve problems.
MANAGE HUMAN RESOURCES
- Coach employees on tasks to ensure competence and experience.
- Manage and apply personnel processes such as leave application, one-on-one.
- Ensure a healthy employee relations climate.
- Implement performance management.
- Communicate effectively in the workplace.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- BTech in Engineering Mechanical or Industrial or Metallurgical.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience within the fast-moving manufacturing sector in a supervisory role.
- Tertiary qualification in operations management will be an added advantage.
- 3-piece food can, end or beverage can, end manufacturing will be an added advantage.
- 3 years’ experience as a Shift Supervisor controlling a manufacturing plant will be an added advantage.
